Tomatoes are not just a summer food eaten cold. They can also be wonderfully cooked in a pan or in the oven, such as this delicious meat-filled version.
Ingredients
- 3 tbspIl Mio Gran Ragù Extra Gusto
- 4 tomatoes
- 2 tbsp breadcrumbs
- 1 clove garlic
- 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt, pepper
- Fresh mint
Preparation
Wash the tomatoes thoroughly, remove their tops, then scoop out the inside with a spoon, making sure not to break the skin.
Place the scooped-out tomato pulp, finely chopped garlic, pepper, salt, and breadcrumbs into a bowl, then add 3 tablespoons of Il Mio Gran Ragù Extra Gusto to the meat filling.
Mix everything well and add the chopped mint leaves.
Fill the tomatoes with the mixture, sprinkle the tops with Parmesan cheese, and drizzle with a little oil.
Meat-Stuffed Tomatoes: A Tasty Alternative
When it comes to stuffed tomatoes, there are so many variations to choose from. One of the most popular versions, alongside Il Mio Gran Ragù Extra Gusto, is stuffed tomatoes with minced meat.
Preparation: Scoop out the tomatoes and chop the pulp. Thinly slice carrots and leeks, sauté for 4–5 minutes, then add the minced meat and cook for another 3 minutes. Add the tomato pulp and spices, fill the tomatoes, and bake at 200°C for 30 minutes.
Perfect Pairings
Stuffed tomatoes are a perfect appetizer with mozzarella and pesto, and they also make an excellent filling for mini quiches. Their freshness pairs well with simple sauces for penne, farfalle, and other short pasta shapes. They can also be used in fish skewers or onion gratins.
Variations
Besides breadcrumbs, you can fill them with couscous for a delicious appetizer, or with tuna, mayonnaise, and boiled eggs. You can also prepare rice-stuffed (Mediterranean-style) or vegetable (eggplant, zucchini) versions.
